CAMBOCCIA CLOSED FOR THE SUMMER!

Camboccia sessions at Witchford and Impington are now closed for the
summer. Witchford will be back on Friday the 3rd September. Impington will
start back on Sunday 5th September.

Huntingdon still has a few more sessions and then will not meet through
all of August. The Huntingdon session will start back on Saturday 4th
September.

Congratulations to everyone from Camboccia who done the Boccia Leaders Award: Level 1. We have now 10 from the club who are capable of providing a boccia session and refereeing games. A BIG WELL DONE to, Sam Wright, Nicki Myers, Alex Donlon, Rachel Dinnebier, Hannah Wright, Josh Donlon, Ash Myers, Irving McCormick, John Wright and Shaun McCormick.

Boccia Leaders Award: Level 1

Course duration: A 4 / 41/2 hour course with a requirement to deliver 2 hours of boccia to achieve accreditation. (This is self-certified)

Course aim: To provide individuals involved at community and recreational levels with a basic understanding of the sport.

It is suitable for community workers, leaders and individual players (e.g. those involved in Local Authority Youth Games, individuals and staff of residential homes, sports clubs - boccia specific and multi-sport, after-school clubs etc.)

The course will equip delegates to:

  • Introduce and teach the game of boccia, understand basic rules and the interpretation of rules
  • Lead boccia sessions with an appropriately structured activity plan and in accordance with health and safety requirements
  • Be aware of the needs of individuals and the empowerment of all players
  • Teach basic skill practices to players
  • Introduce creativity and fun sessions
  • Have an understanding of the existing competitive structures to enable individuals to progress in the sport

Course fee: ?20, cheque made payable to Camboccia

Course logistics:

CP Sport will provide: Tutor, delegate booklets and resources and certification.

Camboccia will be holding 3 free taster sessions at different venues around Cambridgeshire over the coming months. Anyone is welcome to turn up on the day.

The second Herts/Cambs league meeting took place in Hatfield the home of the Eagles. For Camboccia is was a dismal display losing all 3 matches. In the first match Camboccia got off to a great start and by the 4th end Camboccia were 5-2 up. In the 5th and 6th end Camboccia totally collapsed with the Ninjas taking 9 points. The second game was a very close game, but the Knights just edged it. The final game saw the Eagles outplay Camboccia with a deserved win.

Camboccia played there first meeting of league fixtures at Baldock in the
National Boccia League, Herts/Cambs League.
They played 3 matches, Winning 2 and losing 1.

The team produced a good all round performance. Getting stronger and
stronger by each game. Though the first game was lost, it was a close
fought contest with North Herts Ninjas winning. The second game Camboccia took 5 out of the 6
ends beating North Herts Knights. Match 3 seen Camboccia completely thrash
Hatfield Eagles with a solid display of tactical Boccia not giving the Eagles a chance to even take a point.

A big thanks to BC3 Paralympian and World Champion Grigoris Polyhronidis for letting Camboccia have permission to use Boccia in Action and Rules Of Boccia Presentation which are displayed on our website.

Thanks to John Lewis we have received our first ever donation of ?50. Also thanks to Tami BrownGraphic Design and So Inspire Me Graphic Designers, who both made us flyers for free.

The last session for 2009 will be on the 13th December. We shall resume training back on the 10th January 2010 at the usual time.

Camboccia have entered into the National Pan Disability Boccia League 2009/2010. We will play in the Herts + league against 2 teams from Eagles BC and  2 teams from North Herts.
